Dear David Pine,
This letter is with regards to the need for the community in San Mateo County, specifically in San Bruno, Pacifica, Daly City, South San Francisco, Brisbane, Millbrae, Burlingame and Hillsborough to work to save Crestmoor fields. The fields at Crestmoor (270 Courtland, San Bruno) are the largest fields available in the area and serve several thousand players every year from AYSO, NORCAL Premier Soccer, and CalNorth. It is the home field of San Bruno’s AYSO which has approximately 700 players and San Bruno Lowen which has approximately 350 players. Several thousands of hours of soccer are played there every year.
Without this field, then San Bruno’s soccer players would have to compete with the San Mateo High School District’s sports teams for field usage at Capuchino high school. They would be viewed as second class citizens, would could potentially be cut off from field usage at any point. The fields have allowed AYSO and Lowen over 30 years to build a community that provides a safe place for kids from toddler age up to U19 to play soccer. Soccer builds social skills, the ability to work in a team, self-respect, promotes a healthy lifestyle, and helps to ensure that kids do not stay on the street unsupervised.
We respectfully ask that you push the San Mateo Union High School district to keep the fields upon the sale of the property and to offer a portion of the property to be sold to the city of San Bruno or the county of San Mateo for sale, so that a parking lot can be built. We ask your help, as a failure to maintain this fields will displace several thousand children who play soccer per year.
